We are still clustering. What shall we choose from this short chapter, I am really trying not to be redundant with the clustering for the week and hope that each of you can learn a little bit on how to cluster and how it all ties together.
2 Nephi 11 begins with Nephi telling us that Jacob spoke many more things unto the people, but Nephi only wrote on the plates what is sufficient. Nephi then shares with us more of Isaiah, because his soul delights in the words. What delights your soul? If you had seen the Savior as Nephi explains to us that he and Jacob had, would your soul delight in the words of Isaiah? In verse 4, Nephi tells us that when Jesus Christ comes, the laws of Moses will end, as they did. I love the fulfilling of prophecy.
I think that we should all liken ourselves unto Nephi and delight in the proving unto our people that Jesus Christ is the Redeemer of the world and our Savior.
Now, let us do a little clustering for this chapter. Let’s go to verse 5 which reads: “And also my soul delighteth in the covenants of the Lord which he hath made to our fathers; yea, my soul delighteth in his grace, and in his justice, and power, and mercy in the great and eternal plan of deliverance from death.” The first word to start clustering for this verse is “covenants,” which sends us to the topical guide for Abrahamic Covenant. In the topical guide, we can also go look at covenants; mission of Israel, Seed of Abraham; Separation and then to the Bible Dictionary Covenant of Abraham. If I counted correctly, under the heading of Abrahamic Covenant in the topical guide, there are 53 verses that we can reference. I will just use the first so this blog post doesn’t get out of control. Genesis 12:3 reads “And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.” Here we learn that we will be blessed if we follow the Lord.
The next word in verse 5 that has references is “grace.” Here, again, we are sent to the topical guide to look up benevolence and grace. Under the heading of benevolence, we are also lead to the headings of charity, compassion, give, grace, and kindness. There are 38 verses using benevolence in them, the first is Joshua 2:12: “Now therefore, I pray you, sear unto me by the Lord, since I have shewed you kindness, that ye will also shew kindness unto my father’s house, and give me a true token:” Under the heading of grace in the topical guide we are referred to see benevolence, favor, mercy of god, good works, Man may fall from grace, gracious and mercy. 95! That’s how many verses refer to grace. That’s a lot of verses. I think the most simple way to explain grace, that definitely doesn’t capture the fullness of the grace of God, is to say that grace is an unmerited act of kindness.
The last word from verse 5 that has reference deliverance which again sends us off to the topical guide for the headings of deliverance and Atonement through Jesus Christ. I am going to leave this for you to go look up and cluster and head off to the living room for Family Home Evening.
I pray that you are learning to group these scriptures together and learn from them as I am. I leave this simple message with you in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
