2 Nephi

2 Nephi 17

Welcome to a new week with a new study skill set!  I have a lot of ground to cover this week from 2 Nephi 17-27.  I plan on using the study skill set “lists” to work through this week.  Therefore, we will be making lists, this is a new concept for me, so bear with me as I muddle through.

2 Nephi 17 is another Isaiah chapter, but I’m not afraid!  Let’s go and see what Nephi wants to share with us.

List from verse 4: Take heed and be quiet, fear not, neither be faint-hearted

List from verses 19: desolate valleys, holes of the rocks, upon all thorns, upon all bushes

I think there are a couple more lists that I am not sure are lists, but I will leave this as it stands for now.  What can we learn from the list in verse 4?  I see that Isaiah is being instructed to be bold and is being comforted from the Lord, knowing that these men will be angry, but he should do as commanded and be brave. We can certainly liken this unto ourselves in this life.  How many “things” are out there in the world that have fierce anger or that cam be described as “smoking firebrands”?  I think of music, movies, television, pornography, addictive substances, the list could go on.

The list in verse 19 really confuses me some, but if I read on to the following verses, I think that I am understanding that before Jesus is old enough to be away from his earthly mother that he shall make a desolate land and that punishments will come across parts of the earth for their uncleanness.   If anyone has different ideas on this, please let me know.

As I said before, I am certain there is at least one other list in this chapter, so please let me know if you have some understanding that I do not.  I look forward to your remarks!

I write this in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
