Lists…. we’re supposed to be making lists. And actually, that is exactly what I have been doing all week. But I’ve been making them for life and not for my blog!!!! Ah. Well, I’m getting back on track. It’s Friday night, the night before Halloween, what else could a mother of five be doing other than blogging, right? Well, I could make you a list, but I’ll spare you the gory details.
And here I am back, the day after Halloween. All of those lists are catching up to me and here at the top is to get this blog post done!
There are a couple of great lists in this chapter, a good one and an evil one. I imagine those little cartoon guys sitting on my shoulders as I think about these two lists…. not overly imaginative, but that’s all I’ve got.
Starting in verse three, the evil list starts. It reads in part “and they perish because they….” This is where we learn what we can do to be cast out by the Lord.
- cast out the prophets
- cast out the saints
- stone them
- slay them
- those who are proud
- those that do wickedly
- they who kill the prophets
- they who kill the saints
- sell themselves for naught
- yield unto the devil
- choose works of darkness
- must go down to hell
In verse eight is where the good list begins. We learn “the righteous that hearken unto the words of the prophets and destroy them not but look forward to Christ with steadfastness for the signs which are given, notwithstanding all persecution – behold, they are they which shall not perish.”
- he shall heal them
- they shall have peace with him
- prayers heard
- not be forgotten
- invited to partake of His goodness
We know that there are many more blessing that will be given to the righteous, however, these are they that are listed in this chapter. Truly, this chapter is filled with descriptions of horribleness that Nephi witnesses as his people become wicked after his time. If you are to read the entire chapter, there is plenty of light shed on what could be described as today’s world.
I pray that as you read through this chapter, if you have issues in your life that you need to address and repair, do not procrastinate. There is no time for procrastination of repentance, today is the day to get on your knees before God and Jesus Christ and begin. He will hear you, He will have mercy and He will help you get on the right path.
I pray for these things in my life and in yours, in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
