Alma 15

When was the last time you had a fever?  When you began to feel like you could crawl out of bed or off of the couch, did you leap to your feet?  Me either… but someone did. Let’s take a gander at Alma 15 and find out who was blessed to leap up out of bed after a great bout of illness.

So Alma and Amulek leave the city of Ammonihah after using the power bestowed upon them to destroy the prison.  They head to their next mission area the land of Sidom.  In Sidom, they find the people that fled Ammonihah as they were being stoned and among them is Zeezrom.  Zeezrom is sick, sick, sick.  His illness is said to be caused by “great tribulations of his mind” (verse 3) because of his many sins and he believed that he had caused the death of Alma and Amulek.  When Zeezrom heard that Alma and Amulek had arrived in Sidom, he asked that they be brought to him.  Of course, Alma and Amulek went right away and found him bed ridden with a high fever and spoke with him and learned of his broken heart and contrite spirit.  I love the prayer that Alma says over Zeezrom, and in this prayer, we learn of the power of healing by faith.  It is written “heal him according to his faith which is in Christ.” (verse 10) When the prayer concludes, Zeezrom leaps to his feet and everyone is amazed.  The story of healing of Zeezrom spreads like wild fire throughout Sidom.

Zeezrom is then later baptized by Alma and he begins preaching to the people if Sidom.  Many people are brought into the fold and the church is established with teachers and priests.

The people that were still alive back in Ammonihah believed that Alma and Amulek were of the devil and they refused to come to Christ.  Amulek lost everything as he was unable to return to his home in Ammonihah so he tarried longer with Alma and went home with him to the land of Zarahemla and continued to teach him and help him on his pathway to His kingdom, the kingdom of Christ.

I leave this with you in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
