“And now behold”. Does that grab your attention? I hope that it did. “There was not a living soul among all the people of the Nephites who did doubt in the least the words of all the holy prophets who had spoken; for they knew that it must needs be that they must be fulfilled.” Not a single Nephite doubted…. Can you imagine that every single person you knew and had any sort of interaction with knew and believed the same things that you did? What a wonderful place it would be! (I have the song in my head now).
Our next flag phrases is found in verse 4 “And now it came to pass”. What is there to learn? The Nephites went forth into the prisons where the robbers were kept and preached in the prisons. Those robbers that did repent of their sins and entered into a covenant swearing to never murder again were released from jail. Those robbers who still had murder in their hearts and were making threats from their cells were put to death, and this went on for the course of four years.
We are reminded in verse 12 that it is Mormon who is writing on the plats and that he is a disciple of God,. A descendant of Lehi who came out of Jerusalem and that he has kept the commandments of the Lord. He tells us that he is recording on the plates of Nephi and also on the small plates.
As Mormon closes this chapter he tells us that he is of the house of Jacob and reminds us of the covenant that Heavenly Father has made with the house of Jacob and that as those who belong to this house will be gathered from the four quarters of the earth.
I love these chapters and I do like reading the flag phrases and paying close attention to what follows, know that Heavenly Father is purposefully drawing our attention.
I leave this with you in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
