Three more posts with flag phrases and since it’s a new day and I’m no longer on vacation and playing catch-up, we may even get some pictures.
The posts may be short as I try to get caught up, but please remember to be studying each chapter on your own as you make your way through the Book of Mormon.
Verse 1: “And it came to pass” “that there was a voice heard among all the inhabitants of the earth, upon all the face of this land, crying:” Could you imagine?? I mean, wow, this must have been incredible all on its own. Forget about what the rest of the chapter says. Stop and ponder on this.
Verse 2: “Wo, wo, wo” “unto this people; wo unto the inhabitants….. We don’t see this flag phrase very frequently in the scriptures, but don’t you think that this is one that we should really stop and focus on? I certainly do.
Christ continues to talk to us through verse 12 regarding the destruction that he has caused to come down upon the inhabitants of great cities throughout the land. There are some great details in here regarding different citizens and it is an interesting read. Throughout these verse you can see the flag phrase “and behold” several times. Pay attention to them.
In verse 13 Christ begins to tell those that are listening why they were spared from death in the human form. He asks each of them to return to him.
In verse 15 Jesus Christ begins to tell us who he is and what it is that he has done.
Verse 16 is Jesus Christ telling us that the scriptures regarding Him coming to the earth and His mortal death and resurrection have come to fruition.
Verse 17 is Christ telling us that the Law of Moses has been fulfilled. The law of Moses no longer stands as firm law, the law of Christ takes its place; this continues in verses 19-20 explaining deeper how sacrifices should be offered and what the sacrifice shall be.
In verse 21 Christ states: “Behold (flag phrase), I have come unto the world to bring redemption unto the world, ti save the world from sin.”
And 3 Nephi 9 closes thus: “Therefore (flag phrase), whoso repenteth and cometh unto me as a little child, him will I receive, for of such is the kingdom of God. Behold (second flag phrase), for such I have laid down my life, and have taken it up again; therefore (third flag phrase) repent, and come unto me ye ends of the earth, and be saved.”
This chapter pierces my heart and I have no additional comments here.
I leave this with you in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
