3 Nephi

3 Nephi 28

Simply reading the heading to this chapter is great.  I know it’s going to be a good one.  I have indeed read this before, but it still gets to me on an emotional level to think about these three men that are much greater than I.

3 Nephi 28 picks up where 3 Nephi 27 left off and Jesus asks each disciple one by one what is that they desire once He returns to the heavens.  Nine of the disciples ask that after their time on earth is done that they may come into His kingdom quickly.  Jesus blesses them and tells them that when they are 72 years old that they will come to Him and find rest.  The other three were quiet and not wanting to tell Christ what it was that they wanted, but Jesus told them “I know your thoughts.”  These three men will never taste death and they will live until Christ returns to earth again and at that time they “shall be changed in the twinkling of an eye from mortality to immortality.”   There are four men walking this earth today, that are so old that we can’t really fathom them being here.  John and these three disciples… John should be about 2017 years old or so and these disciples really should be about the same age give or take 10-15 years.  One for each corner of the earth?  Four men to always stand for Christ here on the earth.

It is great to read about the transformation of these three men and the powers that they were given by the Lord.  And then Mormon shares with us his personal experience that these three men did indeed minister unto him.  Mormon tells us in verses 27-28 “they will be among the Gentiles, and the Gentiles shall know them not.  They will also be among the Jews, and the Jews shall know them not.”  But nevertheless, these men will do great and mighty works to bring people unto Christ and into His fold.  Verse 33 boasts our featured picture today and reminds us that if we had a full account of all of Christs’ works that we would know what would come to pass.   Isn’t that a great thought?  Followed by some great warnings in verses 34-35.

Mormon closes out this chapter with some follow up information regarding the Second Coming of Christ and the transfiguration of the three disciples and what it is that they will have done unto them.

I do hope that you learned a tad bit here… I love this gospel and love having my scriptures open to share with each of you.  I leave this with you in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
