Mormon 9

Picking up right where we left off with Mormon 8 post, we’ll roll into Mormon 9 and see what it is that Moroni has to tell us about.

Moroni starts off the chapter by clearly stating who he is writing to….those that do not believe in Christ.  Here is what he has to say:

  • Everyone will believe in the last day
  • Everyone will be brought forth to stand before Jesus Christ
  • One who is racked with guilt would be more happy to live in hell than to live with a guilty conscience in the presence of God
  • Everyone will see themselves for what they are
  • Everyone will have a desire to live in God’s kingdom

We are then told that we should repent unto Heavenly Father in the name of Jesus Christ that we may be found spotless at the last day. Continuing with instructions given to those that deny the revelations of God:

  • Those that deny revelation, prophecy, gifts, healings, speaking and interpretation of tongues do not understand the gospel of Jesus Christ
  • God is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
  • Heavenly Father is a god of miracles
  • Heavenly Father created Adam and caused the fall so that Jesus Christ, the Son could redeem man kind
  • Everyone will stand before Him in judgement
  • God would only cease to do miracles among men because they dwindle in unbelief
  • “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved, but he that believeth not shall be damned” (verse 23).

Moroni then reminds us the instructions that were given to the disciples of Jesus Christ on the American continent.  They were to go and preach and heal and they would be safe in their journeys with no harm to come upon them.  Those that believed on Jesus Christ because of the preaching of the disciples would be saved and those that did not would be damned.  Doesn’t this still apply to us today?  Just because we aren’t living 1600 years ago when this was taking place, doesn’t mean that we’re immune to the laws of God.  Remember, He is an unchanging God- the same yesterday, today, and forever. We are then reminded to be baptized and partake of the sacrament as worthy disciples of Jesus Christ.

Moroni closes this chapter by explaining the language in which he and others have written on the plates and tells us that he knows Heavenly Father has provided a means for others to translate and interpret the writings of the plates.  He then again testifies of Jesus Christ and asks Heavenly Father to bless those of the house of Israel.

I think that this is a beautiful chapter.  While some of it is a bit more scary to think about than other chapters, look at Moroni and his faith.  He tells us that he knows what will happen and he knows that we need to do these things.  Moroni was with the three disciples, who should still be here on the face of the earth today,as the second coming hasn’t happened yet.  What if one of them is your neighbor, would you act differently than you do?

Points to ponder.  We’ll move on to the Book of Ether for our next 15 chapters as this semester begins to close.  I pray that your studies help you learn and grow in Christ and I leave this post with you in His holy name, Amen.
